How to Setup Canadian Sales Taxation: GST & PST or HST

Overview

StudioCloud can be setup to calculate sales tax for Canadian users which deal with issues of one or two different taxes, and also double taxation (a piggyback tax).


How to Setup Canadian Sales Taxation: GST & PST

GST – Canadian Goods & Services Tax, PST – Provincial Sales Tax

  1. Go to the Point of Sale component
  2. Click on the Settings tab
  3. Click on the Manage Invoice and Tax Settings button in the Invoice Settings section
  4. Enter in the name and tax rate (percentage) for the national goods and services tax in Tax #1
  5. Enter in the name and tax rate (percentage) for the provincial tax rate Tax #2
  6. If the user resides in a province in which residents must apply provincial tax rates to subtotals where federal tax rates have already been applied (piggyback tax), click on Enable Piggyback Tax checkbox.
  7. Click the Save button. 

How to Setup Canadian Sales Taxation: HST

HST – Harmonized Sales Tax

  1. Go to the Point of Sale component
  2. Click on the Settings tab
  3. Click on the Manage Invoice and Tax Settings button in the Invoice Settings section
  4. Enter in the name "HST" or "Sales Tax" and the tax rate (percentage).
  5. Click the Save button.
