What is a Conflict Detected Message?
Overview
This tutorial explains what the conflict detected message means and when it appears.
What is a conflict?In
StudioCloud your data is initially saved to your computer and then
saved to StudioCloud's servers. Because there is a delay between when
data is saved on your computer and when it is finally saved to
StudioCloud there are situations where the data that is being saved to
StudioCloud's server's can be older then the data that has already been
saved to StudioCloud's server's. In this situation a conflict will occur
when the data that is older tries to overwrite the data that is newer. It
will probably be easier to understand an example of the above
situation. Lets suppose you are working on StudioCloud on your laptop in
the airport and you do not have an internet connection. You edit a client called John Doe and add in a note to John Doe saying that he is a great customer and save the client.
Your assistant calls 5 hours later and during the phone call you ask
him to add in the note to John Doe saying that he is a great customer
because you forgot that you had already added it. Your assistance does
so immediately and the note is saved to StudioCloud. A few days later
you open up your laptop and StudioCloud automatically starts to sync the
data that you entered in the airport. It goes to save the note for John
Doe and, at that moment, it detects that your assistant has already
done changes to John Doe that are more recent then your changes. As such
StudioCloud returns a message to you saying that a conflict was
detected when saving John Doe's information. When StudioCloud detects a conflict it will display a conflict resolution window which will let you select which items to save between the two conflicting users. What does StudioCloud do when a conflict is detected?
When
StudioCloud detects a conflict it returns a message to the StudioCloud
desktop program that has the older data and the StudioCloud desktop
program will display a message saying that a conflict was detected for
John Doe. The conflict detected window gives the user an option to override the saved information if so desired.
